Just Green Fields
From October 2005 to June 2006, Real Circumstance developed Just Green Fields by award-winning playwright Jonathan Lichtenstein. This Arts Council funded Development Period culminated in a rehearsed reading at the Mercury Theatre Colchester (June 2006).
The final production, entitled Memory, was produced by Clwyd Theatr Cymru and ran at Clwyd Theatr Cymru (November 2006), 59E59 Theatre in New York (May 2007) & the Pleasance Theatre in London (October 2008).
“I’ve never understood why people are so obsessed with Israel. It’s always in the news. All the time. They did this, they did that. I’m Welsh and there’s ten times more news about Israel than there is about Wales. This and that and checkpoints and extremists and I don’t really care that much. Sometimes I think it’s just racism you know. I mean what if you looked at some of those other regimes? What do we do about it? Nothing. Just moan about the Israelis.”
What happens when the grief for a lost generation forms the identity of a culture?
When that grief is politicised everybody must bear its weight.
The past is like salt. A few white crystals affecting everything.
